What sets Kashmiri Cuisine apart from others?

The origin of Kashmiri cuisine is the beautiful Kashmir valley which is nestled in the mighty Himalayas. The exotic delicacies offered by Kashmir add on to the beautiful locations and mesmerizing views of Kashmir. The staple food consumed by the Kashmiri folk includes rice of the dense and sticky kind which is found in the Kashmir valley. These rice dishes are perfectly paired with lip-smacking mutton and lamb gravies which make up a majority of the diet consumed by Kashmiris. There are several luxurious and rich Kashmiri dishes such as rogan josh and yakhni which are revered and brought to the world by restaurants such as Bukhara Indian Bistro. These gravies can also be enjoyed by special Kashmiri and Indian breads such as bakarkhani and tea such as sheer chai and Kawa.

Different Features of Kashmiri food

  1. Non-vegetarian dishes are found in plenty in Kashmiri cuisine and involve different types of meat such as mutton, chicken, and fish which have made their mark in the world.
  2. Although a vast majority of Kashmiri dishes are non-vegetarian, there are a few purely vegetarian dishes as well which are equally renowned and loved all over the nation. The non-vegetarian dishes are influenced by Mughal preparations that ruled the region during their time. The vegetarian dishes find their roots in the traditional cuisines of Kashmiri pandits.
  3. Kashmiri food also includes traces of culinary styles of Persian, Afghani, and Central Asian origins.
  4. The spices used in Kashmiri food include turmeric and yogurt in abundance to maintain richness and uniqueness in the food. This is seen in the Kashmiri food served in Indian Restaurant Boston.
  5. Kashmiri food is usually spicy because of pungent and aromatic spices such as cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, fennel, and ginger. It is observed that the use of onions and garlic in this cuisine is to a minimum.
  6. The cuisine also uses saffron because Kashmir is a leading producer of saffron, which makes it which adds a rich color and flavor to the food. It is exported and used all over the world to flavo r sweets and rice dishes. Saffron is especially aromatic which adds to the flavor of the food and it is particularly enticing to most gastronomic enthusiasts.
  7. Dry fruits are another trademark of Kashmiri food which is used extensively in the cuisine and adds a nutty taste to the dish.
  8. Rice delicacies of Kashmiri cuisine top the world as the aroma of Kashmiri rice and pulao dishes give it a unique taste which tops the competition of most rice dishes all over the world.
  9. Ghee is another very important part of Kashmiri cuisine which makes some sweet dishes and pulao varieties very rich and luscious. However, in the wave of becoming health conscious several families have switched to mustard oil.

Kashmiri food has the ability to be mouth-watering and absolutely delicious to the extent that even though you are full, you end up craving more. There are so many varieties that your plate doesn’t have enough space to hold all the dishes.

Excellent buffet place Well chosen dishes Very good service Clean I'm proud to have discovered this place Definitely coming back

Isha Gujrathi

I went at 14:30 on a Monday and despite the low-traffic time of day I risked the buffet. Everything I tried was very good! Even the okra, which I don't usually like, was beautifully spiced. A huge surprise: the masala chai wasn't oversweetened! Definitely coming back.

Ben Pearre

I continue to go here whenever I'm nearby. Every time I'm really pleased by the quality of the flavours. One of the tastiest Indian restaurants I've found. Just one thing: the bathroom is, um, slightly "authentic"

Felix Elias

Nice, calm, simple place with really tasty food. Came for lunch buffet. Price was semi-reasonable but not AS many options as some other restaurants. But everything tasted AMAZING and would 100% recommend to anyone. Thanks Bukhara!!
